COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES (top)

Just like castles of the past had moats to protect them, companies must build barriers to entry to prevent rivals from taking customers away. High percentile ranks in each of the nine moats represent better protection, especially if high year after year. Gold lines represent the average category ranking. One-year gains or declines in ranks are drifts in advantage and indicate a non-durable strategy was implemented by the company (gain) or rivals (decline). Gains or declines that extend over 3-5 years or longer indicate a shift in competitive advantage.
